I'm not sure what you mean by a "percussion only" anvil. Do you mean a "musical anvil" such as what Grover Pro makes (and which sounds almost nothing like a blacksmith's anvil), or a workshop anvil (which is what is used most of the time in stuff like Strauss and Wagner operas)?
Other-worldy percussion in an orchestral landscape sounds thoroughly modern. When excitement is called for, not having loads of massive percussion often sounds empty and, well, quaint. I can't imagine the driving intensity of a Batman score feeling the same with just an.

Excuse me if I presume too much, but I believe that a great percussion library for you would be Vir2’s Elite Orchestral Percussion. It’s a library that gets very little attention here and it’s not difficult to see why, because Elite, it is true, simply can’t compete with any of today’s top percussion (read this) libraries when it comes to giving you that spectacular-sounding, high-definition, Hollywood percussion (https://aprel-vologda.ru/hack/?patch=4402) extravaganza which most people seek. If you’re after that kind of thing, look somewhere else.

A set of 'trigger keys' appended to each instrument generate automated rolls, chokes and user rhythm patterns, which is a nice, helpful feature. Another impressive sound library from the Big Fish team.
Get ready for a perfect storm of ethnic, world, and cinematic percussion. Featuring a massive collection of varied percussion samples, World Impact spans the globe featuring percussion instruments from large to small, west to east, north to south, and traditional to rare.

Sampled in meticulous detail and programmed for maximum and instant musical usability, the collection includes hundreds of varied percussion instruments from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and more. A massive 4/2-gigabyte collection of Japanese Taiko drums recorded from multiple microphone positions forms a central part of the library. Each instrument has been recorded with numerous alternate takes and velocity layers, assuring realistic and dramatically expressive sonic results. World Impact is an essential tool in the toolbox of every film composer, movie trailer producer, and aficionado of world percussion instruments.
BASiS is powered by the popular Kontakt Player 2 engine, offering total integration into all major sequencers via its AudioUnit, VST, and RTAS plug-ins, as well as standalone operation. It also works perfectly within both Kontakt 2 and Kontakt 3.

This was a $400 library a few years ago, but can now be had at Best Service for $75. That it is now this inexpensive is both a lure and a red flag.
In case you already own Sonokinetic Capriccio, there is a nice anvil sound in the percussion patch. If you don’t, it’s way too expensive to buy just for an anvil sound.
I'm not sure how this is going to play out for stuff like Synchron Strings, where I'm more likely to need rapid changes of articulations vs. just going back and forth between single notes and rolls. I may end up deciding it's best to force-load the needed slots so they all load when the Synchron preset loads.

Thanks to the comment about the Timpani in the original Spitfire Percussion library, I thoroughly reviewed that library for three hours last night for the first time - I doubt I had even tried it once previously, other than for Timpani, as it was part of a package deal and I just assumed due to its age that it would be shallow and narrow. Quite the opposite; this remains one of the broadest and deepest orchestral percussion (check that) libraries on the market, and is at or near the top of my list now for several instruments, including Anvils, and even Timpani (just barely below Hans Zimmer Pro).
The Rolls creator allows you to generate and customize your own mallet rolls. Triggering one note will simulate two hands striking that single note, while triggering two notes will simulate the back and forth striking with two hands on the respective notes. Further craft your sound with the seven built-in effects including Tune, Equalizer, Distortion, Delay, Reverb, Transient Master, and Compressor.

Furthermore, Elite Orchestral Percussion allows for the creation of rhythmic patterns which are triggered by the engine. Up to 25 user patterns can be programmed in each instrument, and some prebuilt patterns are included in each instrument by default. The pattern engine is capable of everything from traditional patterns to wild and unusual synthetic effects, all of which lock instantly and perfectly to host tempo.
Vital Series: Mallets has been designed for seamless integration with the KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series and Maschine, offering you a unique hands-on experience. Manipulate Mallets’ interface using the controls of all NKS compatible hardware.
Performance features include an innovative legato tool designed for true finger-smooth playing, and a customizable vibrato engine with control over vibrato types, speeds, and depths. Rather than opt for traditional LFO-based vibrato, BASiS uses a sophisticated character vibrato modeled after real bass players, completely controllable from the keyboard and onscreen interface. Randomized pick noises, release samples, and fret noises add to the realism of each instrument.

World Impact also features an extensive custom articulation and trigger engine. Built-in custom articulations include choke, flam, 3-stroke roll (16th notes), 3-stroke roll (32nd notes), 3-stroke roll (64th notes), roll (32nd notes), and roll (64th notes). Each of these are tempo-synced as appropriate, and can be customized in detail.
Nks-scan can be used to display the structure of a nks/nkx archive. It was usedduring development to discover the meaning of unknown bytes in archives.

Before I continue: the opinions expressed here are in no way influenced by Vir2 (https://aprel-vologda.ru/hack/?patch=6632)'s offer. Anything I say here, I say because I really do feel that way, and not for any other reason. I did promise Vir2 this review, yes, but its contents, as they appear here, were arrived at completely independently.
VSL Synchron Percussion has four models, with open, mute, and rolls for articulations. It is a set of Musical Anvils (though probably not the Grover Pro set, which are new); not the ones from a workshop.
Each instrument was recorded using various mallet types. This gives composers and producers complete control and customization over their own sound.
Well, there's the KontaktPlayer2 and then there's 19,55 gigabytes of samples. There's also a professionaly designed and well printed manual, which adds to the overal feel of 'high quality'. I do like a good and well-made manual if only because it shows that the developer is very serious about his product and, furthermore, the attention and care that goes into a good manual is usually also an accurate reflection of the quality of the product itself.

Nkx files are different from nks files in that each archive may have its ownencryption key needed to extract the contents. These keys are usually suppliedas part of the package containing the archives, but the exact location may varyand is dependant on the host operating system: on Windows, the keys may be keptin the registry, on Mac OS X in application property files. There is nouniversal and platform-independent way of accessing these. This is why unnkscontains a database of known packages with nkx archives and how to obtain theirkeys.

Spitfire's percussion library is one of the very few that samples actual workshop anvils, and it is luscious, with several pitches, hit, horn, and pipe. It was a late discovery for me, as so often are instruments hidden away in large catch-all libraries, but it's deeply sampled.
The ancient EW Symphonic Orchestra also has many articulations, but they aren't categorized or documented very well. They were my go-to until I discovered the ones I have from Spitfire.
Also, EQ is sometimes useful within the mic editors. The reason for this philosophy, which goes against how I have worked previously (including with drum products like BFD and Superior), is that we will mostly be recording the mic mix (some of you may route each mic to your DAW; I'm too lazy), meaning that depending solely on down-mix reverb will give weird results due to how many mics are involved. The surround mics of course also need a bit of delay applied to them.
Unavoidable with such a vast choice of instruments I guess, is the fact that they're not always sampled with what would have been 'nice and helpful consistency'. Even instruments belonging to the same group — like the snaredrums, for instance — don't all include the same type of samples (and thus have inconsistent mappings as well), which is a bit of a pity because it makes it rather difficult to replace a snaredrum part if you want to explore how different snares sound when performing the same part. Also, there seems to be a certain randomness in the way some articulations are performed which, again, makes it difficult to quickly replace sounds. And while some instruments are covered quite extensively, others have to make do with just a couple of samples.
